Sandburg High School's soccer squad clinched its first regional championship since 2022 on Tuesday, defeating Marist by a solitary goal in a match that hinged on precision and poise.
A Family Legacy Fuels the Triumph
Freshman forward Quinn Fahey was the catalyst, netting all three goals for Sandburg. Her uncle, Dan Fahey, was a key member of Sandburg's inaugural state championship boys soccer team in 1993, a connection that added emotional weight to the victory.
Coach Tom Kubowicz praised Quinn's composure under pressure, noting that she is "built for big moments" and that her performance exemplified the team's readiness for high‑stakes play.
Senior goalie Alanna Noone, a Benedictine recruit, highlighted the squad's chemistry, emphasizing that the group's hard work throughout the season coalesced into a cohesive unit capable of executing under duress.
The win also spotlighted other standout players who are expected to return next season, including Marist's junior leading scorer Mia Sherry, freshman assist leader Anna Budz, and fellow goalkeepers Treasa Hernon and Guliana Conte.
Beyond Sandburg, the regional championship list includes Lyons, St. Laurence, De La Salle, Mother McAuley, Nazareth, and Chicago Christian, underscoring a competitive landscape that continues to evolve.
