Quinn Fordham Gray Sr. was introduced this week as the new head coach of the Florida A&M Rattlers football program, taking the reins of a storied program with a championship pedigree. The announcement came during a press conference at the university’s athletic complex, where university officials praised Gray’s blend of playing experience, coaching acumen, and deep roots in Florida football.
A Family Legacy
Gray’s father, Otis Gray Sr., is a legend in Florida high school football, having guided Dillard High School to state titles in 1986 and 1989. The elder Gray also coached at Boca Raton High School before returning to lead Dillard, where his son emerged as a star quarterback. That lineage of leadership shaped Quinn’s understanding of discipline, strategy and community pride.
Before stepping into the head‑coach role, Gray built a diverse coaching résumé that includes assistant positions at Florida A&M, Alcorn State and Memphis, as well as head‑coach stints at Andrew Jackson High School and Lincoln High School in Tallahassee. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education from FAMU in 2006, a foundation he says informs his approach to player development and academic support.
Championship Pedigree
Gray’s most recent triumph came at Albany State University, where he led the program to a Black College Football National Championship in 2025. The season was marked by a controversial yet defining moment: he dismissed his own son from the roster to preserve program integrity, a decision that underscored his no‑nonsense philosophy and earned respect across the sport.
The Rattlers’ opening game under Gray’s direction is scheduled for August 29 against Albany State at Ken Riley Field in Tallahassee. The matchup will serve as a personal homecoming, pitting father‑son narratives against a broader season slate that includes contests with South Carolina State, Tennessee State and other SWAC rivals. All games will be streamed on SWAC TV, giving fans nationwide access to the new era.
