Students at Grant High School have come forward with allegations that racial slurs were shouted during a playoff baseball matchup against Central Catholic earlier this week.
The Oregon School Activities Association confirmed that Central Catholic filed a formal complaint concerning the behavior of the Grant crowd, though the association has not released specifics of the incident.
Witnesses from the Grant side say they heard offensive language directed at players from the stands, while a family that attended the game reported hearing nothing of the sort.
Calls for Respect and Accountability
Portland Public Schools issued a statement acknowledging the concerns and indicating that the matter is being examined by the OSAA as part of its ongoing review process. One student, speaking on behalf of his peers, stressed that ‘treating others with respect is non‑negotiable,’ underscoring the broader call for a respectful environment in school sports.
