The Marblehead Youth Soccer Association issued a statement this week after multiple reports surfaced of racial slurs directed at players during recent matches. The organization expressed deep sadness and embarrassment, emphasizing that such conduct has no place in youth sports or in society at large.
In response, the MYSA Board of Directors convened an internal review, reaffirming its commitment to sportsmanship and inclusion. Founded in 1976, the non‑profit league is run entirely by volunteers who coach and organize games across the town, and the board stressed that protecting the integrity of the sport remains a top priority.
A Call for Unity
Helaine R. Hazlett, co‑chair of the Marblehead Task Force Against Discrimination, labeled the incidents unacceptable and called for immediate action to support those affected. Similarly, Rev. James Bixby of the Marblehead Racial Justice Team offered counseling resources and pledged to work with the association on preventive measures.
