Heavy rain swept across Wichita on Thursday, forcing officials to postpone the state baseball and softball games that were slated for the morning at Wichita State.
Classes 5A and 6A, which draw large crowds of families and students, saw their contests shifted from the original 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. slots to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., only to be called off as the downpour persisted.
One parent, whose two seniors — including her daughter and a teammate named Maddie — are eager to compete, said the athletes remain ready to take the field as soon as conditions improve.
Track and Field Meet Takes Center Stage
The Kansas state track and field meet, billed as the largest high school meet of its kind in the nation, will be held at Crossland Stadium this weekend, featuring live updates of local winners beginning at 2 p.m. on Friday.
Championship events are scheduled for Saturday, and unlike previous years there will be no third‑place games, adding extra urgency to the competition.
Despite the weather setbacks, organizers say the meet will showcase the resilience of the athletes and the community’s commitment to sport.
