Early in the contest, forward Anuhea Aluli struck first, slipping a precise shot past the Kansas State defense to put Hawaii ahead. The lead was short‑lived, however, as the Wildcats equalised in the 27th minute and later pulled ahead in the second half, sealing a 3‑1 victory.
The inclement weather forced the cancellation of the KFVE television broadcast, leaving many viewers without a live feed, yet the fans in attendance braved the rain, waving banners and chanting for their team. Head coach Michele Nagamine later praised Aluli’s explosive finishing, noting the youngster’s potential despite the loss.
