Rainbow Warriors and Rainbow Wahine Make Historic Mountain West Debut

Hawai'i's basketball programs enter the 2027 tournament with championship pedigree and national broadcast exposure

A New Era for Hawai'i Basketball

The University of Hawai'i is set to make its first appearance in the 2027 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Basketball Championships, with both the Rainbow Warriors and Rainbow Wahine opening play in Las Vegas.

The tournament runs from March 7 to March 13, splitting the women's competition across the first four days and the men's across the final four, while the top six seeds enjoy byes into the quarterfinals.

Champions in each division will secure the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, a prize that has eluded the Rainbow Warriors for nearly a decade.

Broadcast and Stakes

All games will be carried on CBS, CBS Sports Network and the streaming platform MW+, ensuring that fans across the country can follow the action live.

Gloria Nevarez, commissioner of the Mountain West, said the extended schedule and broader broadcast reach will give student‑athletes more exposure and strengthen the league's national profile.

UH joins the Mountain West as a full‑time member this summer, bringing a program that captured three Big West titles in the past three seasons and most recently won the conference tournament to earn its first NCAA berth since 2016.
