The Los Angeles Rams are set to turn Melbourne into a temporary home for their fans with a three‑day festival that blends American tailgate traditions with the city’s riverfront scenery.
A floating field on the Yarra
From September 10 to 12 the festival, dubbed Rams House: The LA Tailgate Experience, will occupy the Southbank Riverwalk and feature a 22‑yard floating football field on the Yarra River, where visitors can watch a miniature game, sample LA‑style cuisine and browse Rams merchandise.
Crown Melbourne will serve as the official hub for Rams supporters, with its riverwalk reimagined as a Rams‑themed promenade, complete with photo opportunities, live performances and a pop‑up shop.
The centerpiece of the weekend will be the regular‑season showdown between the Rams and the San Francisco 49ers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on September 11, marking the first NFL game ever played in Australia and pitting two of the league’s most storied franchises against each other.
Beyond the spectacle, the Rams are using the visit to seed a longer‑term presence in the country, launching a school‑based flag‑football program that will bring coaching sessions and starter kits to 50 Victorian schools in early September.
By mixing entertainment, community outreach and a historic sporting fixture, the club hopes to turn a one‑off event into a lasting cultural bridge between the NFL and Australian fans.
