A Milestone on the Court
Randy Bessolo, a longtime high school basketball coach in the San Francisco Bay Area, was recently honored for reaching his 500th career victory. The milestone was celebrated amid a community that has watched his teams grow from local contenders into nationally recognized programs.
Beyond the wins, Bessolo founded the Boys Cali Live series, an annual showcase that gives high school teams a platform to compete in front of college coaches. The event has become a staple for aspiring athletes seeking scholarship opportunities and exposure beyond their hometown courts.
Bessolo also helped establish the Bay Area Basketball Coaches Association, an organization that advocates for student‑athletes' interests and promotes fair play across the region. His leadership extends to the California Interscholastic Federation, where he has contributed to policy discussions that shape high school sports.
Over the years, his programs have sent more than 100 players to colleges across the country, and his teams have captured numerous championships, including multiple titles with University High School. The upcoming Boys Cali Live 26 will feature elite squads such as Salesian and Riordan, as well as top talent from California, Arizona, Nevada and other states.
College coaches are expected to attend the event, underscoring its reputation as a premier scouting venue. For many, the showcase is the first step toward earning a scholarship, and Bessolo's influence is evident in the way the tournament is structured and promoted.
Beyond the wins and tournaments, Bessolo's impact resonates throughout Northern California. He has mentored coaches, supported community programs, and helped raise the profile of high school basketball in ways that will echo for generations.
