The University of Vermont announced this week that Randy Coble will return to the Catamounts program as an assistant coach, taking up his new role ahead of the 2026 season. His hiring reunites him with former colleagues and signals a renewed focus on leadership and team culture.
Coble’s earlier stint with Vermont ran from 2012 through 2023, during which he helped the team capture three America East regular‑season titles (2012, 2017, 2019) and two tournament championships (2015, 2021). Under his guidance the program built a reputation for defensive solidity and goalkeeping excellence.
During that period he mentored three America East Goalkeepers of the Year — Conor Leland, Aron Runarsson and Nate Silveira — and oversaw a stretch in which Vermont net‑minders recorded 48 shutouts, forming the backbone of championship‑winning sides.
Before his first tenure at Vermont, Coble spent two seasons at Saint Michael’s College, where the team posted 20 shutouts in 39 matches, and later contributed to the women’s soccer staff at Old Dominion University, focusing on defensive organization and goalkeeping.
A native of St. Albans, Vermont, Coble is a 2004 graduate of Castleton University and holds a master’s degree in criminal justice from Boston University (2014). He is known for emphasizing leadership and team culture, values he hopes to instill in the next generation of Catamounts.
A Coach Rooted in Vermont
Coble’s return also coincides with a partnership announcement involving EastRise Credit Union, a local financial institution that will support the program’s community outreach initiatives.
The move has been welcomed by players and alumni alike, including former standout goalkeeper Adrian Dubois, who praised Coble’s ability to blend technical instruction with a strong locker‑room ethos.
Veteran midfielder Rory Twomey highlighted the excitement among the squad about Coble’s return, noting that the coach’s emphasis on leadership resonates with the team’s aspirations.
Fans can expect a renewed focus on discipline and resilience as the Catamounts look to contend for another America East title in the upcoming campaign.
