The New York Rangers announced a blockbuster move, acquiring forward Pavel Dorofeyev from the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for a package of draft picks that includes a 2026 first-rounder, a 2026 third-rounder and a 2028 conditional first-rounder. The deal underscores the Rangers’ intent to bolster their offense ahead of the upcoming season.
A New Chapter for Dorofeyev
Dorofeyev, a 25-year-old native of Nizhny Tagil, Russia, enjoyed a breakout campaign in the 2025-26 season, setting personal bests with 37 goals and 27 assists for 64 points in 82 games. He topped the Golden Knights in goals, power-play goals and power-play points, and ranked second in the NHL with 20 power-play goals.
His impact extended into the postseason, where he contributed 12 goals and four assists over 22 games, helping Vegas reach the Stanley Cup Final. Across five NHL seasons, Dorofeyev has compiled 92 goals, 57 assists and 149 points in 231 appearances, establishing himself as a reliable scorer.
Prior to his North American career, Dorofeyev honed his skills in the KHL with Metallurg Magnitogorsk and Traktor Chelyabinsk, and he was originally drafted by the Golden Knights in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. He also spent time with the Henderson Silver Knights in the AHL, posting 45 goals and 37 assists for 82 points in 87 games.
General manager Chris Drury praised the acquisition, highlighting Dorofeyev’s blend of skill and work ethic. "We’re excited to bring a proven goal-scorer into our lineup," Drury said. "His experience in high-pressure situations will complement our young talent and strengthen our pursuit of a championship."
The trade reflects a strategic shift for the Rangers, who have been active in the free-agent and trade markets this summer. By parting with future draft capital, New York signals a willingness to compete now, while the Golden Knights receive additional picks to continue building around their core.
