Raymy Brown, a 1979, 1980 and 1982 graduate of New Mexico State University, spent decades as a software engineer before stepping onto the baseball diamond as a Little League umpire.
His journey into umpiring began when two of his children played in the league, prompting him to volunteer and eventually earn a place among the elite officials who oversee the world’s largest youth sports program.
The Path to the World Series
In August 2025, Brown was selected to umpire at the Little League Baseball World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania — a distinction many consider the pinnacle of Little League officiating. The honor reflects years of dedication and a commitment to serving as a positive role model for young athletes.
During the tournament, he worked nine games, including high‑stakes semifinal matchups that were broadcast nationally on ESPN and ABC. The games featured the best youth teams from around the globe, with the Asia‑Pacific region edging the Caribbean 1‑0 in the international final.
Brown also traveled to Waco, Texas, to officiate the Southwest Region Tournament from August 6‑11, where the regional champion would advance to the World Series. The experience reinforced his belief in the power of sport to bring communities together.
Now looking back on his tenure, Brown describes the entire episode as extraordinary, emphasizing the camaraderie among umpires, the thrill of making critical calls, and the privilege of mentoring the next generation of players and officials.
