Arkansas football has unveiled the kickoff times for the first three contests of the 2026 season, setting the stage for a challenging opening stretch that begins with a home game against North Alabama.
A demanding opening stretch
The Razorbacks will open the season on September 5 at 3:15 p.m. against the visiting Lions, then travel to Utah for a historic first‑time matchup on September 12. That game is slated for a 9:15 p.m. Central kickoff and will be broadcast on ESPN. Just a week later, Arkansas will host Georgia at 11 a.m. on September 19, with the broadcast moving to ABC.
Athletics director Hunter Yurachek voiced serious concerns about the impact of this schedule on student‑athletes' well‑being. He noted that the late‑night contest in Utah followed by an early‑morning game in Georgia effectively strips the team of nearly a full day of rest and recovery, a scenario he believes could jeopardize performance and health.
Player welfare at the forefront
Yurachek has formally requested that the SEC and ESPN reconsider the kickoff times, emphasizing that the welfare of the players must take precedence over television scheduling preferences. He argued that the conference and network have a responsibility to protect the athletes who generate the viewership that drives revenue.
Coach Ryan Silverfield echoed the sentiment, stating that his priority is always what is best for the fans, but that the coaching staff will also advocate for the athletes' physical condition. He indicated that the team will adapt as needed while the administration pushes for a more balanced schedule.
Kickoff times for the remainder of the 2026 slate will be announced at a later date, leaving open the possibility of adjustments to the early‑season pattern that has drawn early scrutiny.
