A towering 47‑foot soccer ball now dominates the Boston waterfront, its bright panels catching the eye of commuters, travelers and passersby alike.
The structure, erected through a partnership between Britten Inc. and the Massachusetts Port Authority, not only celebrates the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 but also sets a new benchmark for large‑scale public art.
Britten Inc., a Michigan‑based firm renowned for engineering ambitious event environments, brought its expertise in design‑build‑install solutions to the project, leveraging its 35‑acre campus in Traverse City to fabricate the massive sphere.
From June 12 through June 18, the installation will be on display at Piers Park II, offering a limited window for spectators to experience the record‑breaking piece before it is dismantled.
The ball’s scale and placement ensure it is visible from multiple points along Boston Harbor and even from aircraft approaching Logan International Airport, turning the city’s skyline into a dynamic advertisement for the global tournament.
A Symbolic Gateway to the World Cup
Beyond its visual impact, the project underscores the collaborative spirit between private industry and public agencies, illustrating how innovative marketing can intersect with community spaces to create memorable experiences for residents and visitors alike.
