The Record Searchlight unveiled its 2026 Baseball and Softball Player of the Year awards this week, spotlighting two standout high school athletes from the North State.
Baseball’s Rising Star
Colton Douglas of Foothill High was crowned the 2026 Baseball Player of the Year after a vote tally that reached 1,072 supporters, underscoring his broad appeal across the region.
At the plate he slashed .355/.416/.632, compiling 27 hits, 20 RBIs and 17 runs scored, while on the mound he posted a 0.99 ERA with 63 strikeouts in 42.1 innings, a strikeout rate that rivals top MLB prospects.
Softball’s Clutch Performer
Madison Pemberton from West Valley earned the Softball Player of the Year honor with 2,373 votes, a testament to her dramatic impact in the section championship, where she delivered a walk‑off two‑run homer that sealed the title.
Her season slash line of .473/.496/.782 reflects 52 hits and 46 RBIs, while her 100‑plus hits over three varsity seasons and 88 RBIs highlight a career built on consistency and power.
Both athletes were also recognized on the All‑Northern Section first teams and earned spots on the All‑Eastern Athletic League, cementing their status as the region’s most decorated players heading into the next chapter of their careers.
