The Orono boys' soccer team, known as the Red Riots, entered the season riding a wave of historic success after capturing the Class C North championship, their first since 2014.
That triumph builds on a legacy that includes a Class B North title from 1992, and it comes after a painful double‑overtime loss in the 2025 state final to Hall‑Dale.
A Historic Milestone
Senior center back Colin Melrose said the taste of the championship fuels his desire to relive that excitement, noting that the thrill of reaching the title game is a driving force for the entire squad.
Senior left back Colin Lolar added that the season represents a pivotal moment for both the team and the school, emphasizing the broader impact of a potential state title.
Looking Ahead
The Red Riots open their campaign with a Saturday afternoon match against Presque Isle at 2 p.m., followed by a home opener next Friday at 4 p.m. versus MCI, setting the stage for a season that could culminate in the program's first ever state championship.
With the program’s first ever state championship on the horizon, the Red Riots are determined to translate their recent regional success into a historic national achievement.
