Detroit Red Wings prospect Eddie Genborg, a 19‑year‑old forward, has been forced to skip the team’s training camp in Detroit. The club announced that the youngster is still recovering from an injury sustained during the previous American Hockey League playoffs.
Genborg spent the last season with Timra in the Swedish Hockey League, where he recorded nine goals and added 25 points over 43 games. His offensive output exceeded expectations and generated considerable buzz among scouts.
A Setback in Detroit
The injury occurred in his first playoff appearance with the Grand Rapids Griffins, the Red Wings’ AHL affiliate. The incident prevented him from taking part in the postseason and left the coaching staff without a clear timeline for his return.
According to his agent, Joakim Persson, the player will remain in Sweden for the foreseeable future. Persson emphasized that, based on current communication, Genborg will not be attending the Detroit camp and will continue to train with Timra.
While he is still working on his conditioning, Genborg has not been cleared to participate in any SHL preseason contests. The SHL regular season is scheduled to begin on September 19, and the Red Wings’ newly appointed director of hockey operations will use the coming weeks to evaluate his potential for the upcoming campaign.
Team officials noted that Genborg’s skill set, particularly his offensive creativity, remains highly promising. The organization hopes that, once fully healthy, he can bring that same spark to the professional level.
