Red Wings Ink Stillman to One‑Year, Two‑Way Deal
The Detroit Red Wings announced on Tuesday that they have signed forward Chase Stillman to a one‑year, two‑way contract. The agreement, which pays a modest salary in the NHL and a lower rate in the AHL, gives the club flexibility while adding a player who has already proven his durability at the professional level.
At 23, Stillman brings a blend of offensive skill and physical play that the organization hopes will translate into a deeper roster rotation. In 24 games with the Abbotsford Canucks this season he recorded nine points and 48 penalty minutes, following a 65‑game stretch with the Utica Comets and Wilkes‑Barre/Scranton Penguins in which he tallied 12 points and 54 minutes in the penalty box.
Family Ties and Draft pedigree
Stillman’s pedigree extends beyond the ice. He is the younger brother of Riley Stillman, a veteran of 167 NHL appearances who currently skates for the Edmonton Oilers’ farm system, and the son of Cory Stillman, a 16‑year NHL veteran who captured Stanley Cup titles with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2004 and the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006.
Drafted 29th overall by the New Jersey Devils in the 2021 entry draft, Stillman honed his game in the Ontario Hockey League, where he helped the Peterborough Petes win the J. Ross Robertson Cup in 2023 and added 13 points in the ensuing playoffs.
International Experience
International play has also marked his early career. He was a member of Canada’s gold‑medal squad at the 2021 IIHF World Under‑18 Championship and contributed four points in seven games at the tournament, having previously represented Canada White at the 2019 World Under‑17 Hockey Challenge.
With a career AHL tally of 45 points and 174 penalty minutes across stints with the Comets, Penguins and Canucks, Stillman is expected to compete for a bottom‑six role in Detroit. His blend of grit, family heritage and proven performance makes him a compelling addition as the Red Wings look to build on a promising start to the season.
