Reed Peters, the longtime head baseball coach at the University of the Pacific, died unexpectedly this week after a brief illness, leaving the university community and the broader college baseball world in mourning.
A Life Defined by Baseball
Peters spent 17 years shaping a program at San Joaquin Delta College before making the move to Pacific, where in his second season he guided the Tigers to a 24‑win campaign — the most victories the team had recorded in a decade and a run that included a West Coast Conference tournament win.
His career was marked by personal challenges as well; in 2023 he faced the sudden death of pitcher Will Wentworth, a player he described as a coach’s dream and a great teammate, an experience that tested his resilience and deepened his commitment to his athletes.
Colleagues, former players, and friends have shared stories of his mentorship, his blend of discipline and genuine care, and the lasting imprint he leaves on the next generation of student‑athletes. Adam Tschuor, a fellow coach and close associate, praised Peters for his unwavering dedication and the example he set both on and off the field.
