A Life Remembered
Idarrious “DD” Bowie, a 27‑year‑old former collegiate football player, was killed in northern Rankin County, Mississippi. The news of his death sent shockwaves through the sports community, where he was remembered as much for his off‑field demeanor as for his on‑field talent.
Bowie first rose to prominence at Morton High School, where he compiled 3,132 rushing yards and 87 touchdowns, earning a four‑star rating and the distinction of being the highest‑rated recruit in Ole Miss’ 2017 class.
At Ole Miss he appeared in eight games, registering six tackles and a pass breakup before leaving the program for personal reasons. He later attended Northeast Mississippi Community College before returning to the spotlight with Jackson State, where in 2019 he led the Tigers with 519 receiving yards and five touchdowns.
Coaches such as Jason Jones, Ty Weems and Wesley McGriff have spoken of Bowie’s confidence, energy and selflessness, noting that his maturity stemmed from a loving upbringing and a deep sense of responsibility toward his family.
A father while still in high school, Bowie leaves behind a daughter, Bailee, and a son. His coaches say his devotion to his children was a testament to the values instilled in him at home.
Though five of the six individuals charged in his death have pleaded not guilty, the case continues to draw attention. In the meantime, those who knew him are keeping his memory alive by sharing stories that highlight his kindness, his work ethic and the joy he brought to teammates and friends.
