A Promising Outlook for the Tigers
Republic Football posted a fifth straight winning season in 2025, finishing 9-3 after defeats only to Nixa and Carthage. The team captured state runner‑up honors in Classes 6 and 5, underscoring its consistency and competitive edge.
Head coach Ryan Cornelsen emphasized that the program is in a strong position, noting that players have internalized expectations and are prepared to meet the rigors of a demanding schedule.
Among the standouts is defensive back Keiran Govan, a Mizzou commit who earned first‑team all‑state honors with 57 tackles, four interceptions, six passes defended, 10 receptions for 220 yards and four touchdowns. His junior‑year film highlighted speed, game IQ and versatility that attracted offers from programs nationwide.
To solidify the offense, the Tigers will experiment with multiple quarterbacks early in the season. Options include Trenten Coleman, Brennan Overstreet and Cooper Cornelsen, allowing the coaching staff to evaluate personnel packages before conference play.
Senior contributors such as Raleigh Verstraete, now slated for tight end, Brody Romines at center and Brye Hein on the line, alongside new receiver Kordel Riley, are expected to bolster the attack. The defensive secondary remains formidable, anchored by Govan and complemented by Alex Johnson, AJ Uhl, Carter Coggin, Cayden Pacheco and Fisher Moore at safety or corner.
On the edge, Ethan Montiel earned first‑team all‑conference honors as an outside linebacker, leading the team with 18 tackles for loss and seven sacks. Interior lineman Ekene Chukwu returns after a 35‑tackle junior season, projected to improve further.
The Tigers open the season on August 28 at Lebanon, aiming to execute at a high level and build momentum for district competition. With depth cultivated from the junior varsity ranks, Republic believes new faces will be ready to contribute early.
