Reviving the Hilltop: Hillcrest Football’s Comeback Campaign
After a dismal 0‑10 campaign last year, Hillcrest’s football program is pinning its hopes on a rapid turnaround driven by a core group of returning starters and a renewed emphasis on speed and physicality.
The offense will be anchored by quarterback competition between Nolan Skelton and Dylan Kirby, both of whom have impressed during the summer workouts. Wide receiver Josh Jefferson has refined his route running, while tight end prospect Draven Keys is being heralded as the most promising college prospect in the squad.
Running backs Xavier Garnett and Keyon Clay are expected to shoulder a larger share of the rushing attack, with Garnett slated for a more dual‑role offensive presence. On defense, Cornelius Nolan returns as a versatile leader, and the unit aims for a swarming, high‑effort identity in which all eleven players converge on the ball.
Keyon Clay (secondary) is projected to break out after posting 58 tackles a year ago, while defensive standout Cornelius Nolan brings relentless play and leadership. The defense also features contributors such as Keenan Ganz, Rylan Wilson, Oliver McGarry, Jaxen Wilson, Clayton Gott, Hunter Blomenkamp, Caleb Holloway, Emillion Easler, Wendell Hopkins, Donte Pierce and the secondary duo of Josh Jefferson (secondary) and Keyon Clay (secondary), adding depth across the line.
Veterans Joe Barr and Kyle Hahn provide additional stability on the offensive line, while the roster also includes Rylan Wilson, Oliver McGarry, Jaxen Wilson, Clayton Gott, Hunter Blomenkamp, Caleb Holloway, Emillion Easler, Wendell Hopkins, Donte Pierce and others who will look to make an impact. The team opens the season on September 4 against Fair Grove, a matchup that will serve as the first test of the new‑look roster. Offseason work has centered on responding positively to both successes and setbacks, a mindset coach hopes will translate into consistent performance on the field.
