A New Chapter for the Rams
The University of Rhode Island’s men’s basketball program is gearing up for a demanding Atlantic 10 slate in the 2026‑27 season, a schedule that will test the Rams against some of the conference’s recent powerhouses.
Road Tests Against Elite Opponents
Road trips to face Saint Louis, Virginia Commonwealth University and Saint Joseph’s await the Rams, each of whom finished among the top three in the previous year. Saint Louis opened the last campaign with a 24‑1 run before dropping its first league game to URI, while VCU captured the conference tournament and pulled off a stunning upset of North Carolina in the NCAA Tournament before bowing to Illinois in the Round of 32. Saint Joseph’s closed the season on a 13‑3 streak, highlighted by home victories over Dayton and George Washington.
Head coach Archie Miller will guide the team through this gauntlet, relying on the continued development of standout guard Jonah Hinton, whose three‑point shooting helped URI notch its first win over a top‑25 opponent in more than eight years. The roster also retains Jahmere Tripp and Jalen Harper, while welcoming new transfers Jason Fontenet II from UC Santa Barbara, Dylan Williamson from Towson and Matas Deniusas from UT Martin.
URI’s home floor will host a mix of familiar foes and newcomers, including Dayton, Davidson, George Washington and St. Bonaventure, while the non‑conference portion features in‑state rivals Brown and Providence and a neutral‑site showdown with Monmouth at the Mohegan Sun.
Last season the Rams finished 16‑16 overall and 7‑11 in conference play, a record that left them 4‑6 against rivals such as George Mason, Duquesne, Fordham, Richmond and La Salle. With a blend of experience and fresh talent, the coaching staff and players are hopeful that the upcoming schedule will provide the platform for a turnaround.
