A new direction for the Rams
The University of Rhode Island men’s basketball program announced a series of staff moves that could reshape its approach to player development and behind‑the‑scenes operations. The changes come as head coach Archie Miller looks to build on recent progress and maintain consistency within the roster.
Chandler Graves, who has been with the program for several years, was promoted to assistant coach/chief of staff, marking his third advancement in just four seasons. Miller highlighted Graves’ dedication, work ethic and the value of his continued growth within the organization.
Former player R.J. Johnson joined the Rams as a graduate assistant after a collegiate career that produced 1,355 points, 485 assists and 110 steals across stints at Charleston Southern and Holy Cross. Johnson’s deep familiarity with the team and his proven statistical record position him as a key contributor to player development during the offseason.
Kelin Jeffreys was named video coordinator, bringing four seasons of experience from the University of Cincinnati where he managed filming, scouting materials and camp counseling duties. His operational background is expected to enhance the program’s analytical and preparatory processes.
Miller’s endorsement
Archie Miller praised both Graves and Jeffreys, noting that Graves’ multiple promotions reflect his indispensable contributions and that Jeffreys’ blend of video and operational expertise adds a new dimension to the staff. Miller emphasized that these additions are designed to improve efficiency and support the team’s competitive goals.
The broader objective of the staff reshuffle is to create a more cohesive environment that leverages internal knowledge, enhances player growth and streamlines video analysis. By integrating experienced voices and fresh perspectives, the Rams aim to sustain momentum and deepen their competitive edge in upcoming seasons.
