The Rhode Island Hockey Hall of Fame announced this week that it will award $1,000 scholarships to nine outstanding senior ice‑hockey players from across the state, recognizing a blend of academic excellence, athletic performance and community service.
Honoring On‑Ice Skill and Off‑Ice Character
Eligibility for the awards was open to all senior boys and girls who competed in the R.I. Interscholastic League, ensuring that the pool reflected the breadth of talent in high‑school hockey. The selection committee weighed each applicant’s grade point average, varsity contributions and documented service to school or community, creating a holistic picture of each candidate.
Among the honorees is Jeffrey Larson of North Attleborough, who will continue his education at Boston College. Larson’s selection underscores the Hall’s commitment to rewarding players who excel academically and give back through volunteer work, a standard that aligns with the broader mission of the organization.
A Collaborative Effort
The scholarship program would not be possible without the financial backing and volunteer coordination of RI Hockey, Inc., the RI Reds Heritage Society and a network of dedicated hockey fans throughout the state. Their combined support reflects a shared belief that investing in young athletes also invests in the future of the sport.
The remaining recipients — Madeline Ammatuna, Wyatt Gelzhiser, Ava Lourenco, Noelle Pezzelli, Emily Raimondi, Brady Scanlon, Declan Sullivan and Jacob Sylvester — join Larson in a cohort that exemplifies the diverse talent emerging from Rhode Island’s rinks.
Beyond the monetary award, the scholarships serve as a public acknowledgment of the athletes’ hard work and a catalyst for their continued development, both in the classroom and on the ice. As the recipients prepare for college, many will carry forward the values of teamwork, discipline and community engagement that the Hall of Fame seeks to promote.
