Milestone Season for Rice Soccer
The Rice Owls are set to open their 2026 campaign on Saturday, August 15, when they travel to Annapolis to face the Navy Midshipmen at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility. The match serves as the first of a road trip that will also include a showdown against Houston Christian University on Thursday.
This encounter marks the second meeting between the two programs, with Rice having edged Navy 2‑1 in their 2024 showdown. The game inaugurates a stretch of away contests that will test the Owls' resilience on unfamiliar turf.
Under Head Coach Brian Lee, who has guided the program to multiple winning seasons, the Owls enter the year riding a 15‑3‑3 home stretch over the past three campaigns and a historic 146‑60‑24 record on their own turf. Lee's leadership was highlighted when Rice was placed third in the preseason coaches poll.
The milestone extends beyond the field: 2026 celebrates the 25th anniversary of Rice soccer, a program that burst onto the scene with a record‑setting 14‑win season in 2020‑21 and has since grown into a perennial contender. The anniversary underscores a legacy of sustained success.
Preseason accolades further highlight the team's promise, as Jadyn Jaeger, Lilly Reuscher and Dayo Tennyson earned spots on the American Conference Watch List. Reuscher also landed on the United Soccer Coaches Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy Watch List and was recognized as an All‑Conference Third Team selection the previous year.
The Owls' strong home record and recent honors set the stage for a season that could add another chapter to their storied legacy, as they aim to defend their dominance while navigating a challenging road schedule.
