A New Chapter for Costanzo
Rich Costanzo, the longtime head coach of George Mason University’s men’s soccer program, is swapping his clipboard for a bench spot as an assistant coach with Genefit FC for the 2026 edition of The Soccer Tournament in Cary, North Carolina.
The Soccer Tournament, known as TST, has earned a reputation as one of the most ambitious 7‑v‑7 competitions in the United States, offering a $1 million winner‑take‑all prize and attracting a mix of professional players, celebrities and former collegians.
Scheduled to run from May 27 through June 1 at WakeMed Soccer Park, the event will see Genefit FC open its campaign on May 27 at 12:45 p.m. against Tobacco Road FC, a match that will be streamed live on the tournament’s YouTube channel.
Costanzo’s return to TST is not a first‑time appearance; he previously competed as a player for CONCAFA SC, an experience that shaped his coaching philosophy and left him eager to contribute from the sidelines.
“The mentality and preparation remain the same as when I was playing,” Costanzo said, emphasizing that his focus on discipline and teamwork has not changed despite the shift in role.
Adding to the Patriots’ presence, former George Mason midfielder Mike Foss of the class of 2011 will also wear a Genefit FC jersey, giving the university a second representative on the roster.
Fans can expect a blend of seasoned tactics and youthful energy as the team aims to bring the championship home, while the university looks forward to showcasing its program on a national stage.
