Richard Bland College in Prince George County, Virginia, recently hosted its third Unsigned Prospect Day, attracting close to 50 high school basketball prospects from across the United States.
Coach Cabrera Outlines Dual Mission
The event was organized by men's basketball coach Will Cabrera, who gathered mentors from several Division II and III programs, including Randolph‑Macon, Roanoke and Bridgewater.
Cabrera emphasized that the camp serves two objectives: it helps athletes find suitable colleges while also strengthening the college's recruiting pipeline, a priority as the traditional live‑period window closes and many prospects seek their final opportunity to be evaluated.
A Pathway to Division I
The college aims to recruit high school players, develop them over two years, and prepare them for Division I competition, reflecting both institutional ambition and the evolving nature of college basketball.
Participants left the day with renewed hope, aware that the exposure could tip the scales toward scholarship offers and academic fit, while coaches departed with a fresh scouting list that may shape the next generation of Division I talent.
