Richard Childress Racing announced that it will suspend the use of the No. 8 car after the tragic loss of two‑time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch, who died at the age of 41 following a severe illness.
Busch, who held the record for the most NASCAR national series race wins with 234, dominated the Cup Series in 2015 and 2019, capturing four victories in a five‑week stretch early in 2015 despite serious injuries, and later winning eight races in 2018 before securing the 2019 championship with five more wins.
A Legacy Remembered
The team said the No. 8 will be reserved for Busch’s 11‑year‑old son, Brexton Busch, as a tribute to his father’s enduring impact on the sport.
NASCAR and Richard Childress Racing expressed condolences to the Busch family and highlighted the driver’s 63 Cup Series victories and 395 top‑10 finishes, noting that his achievements will continue to inspire future generations.
