A Hall of Fame Induction
Richard "R.C." Arrington was recently inducted into the Massillon Tiger Football Hall of Fame, a tribute to his extraordinary 1943 season that helped the Tigers finish unbeaten and claim the state championship.
That single season saw the team post a perfect 10‑0 record, outscoring opponents by an average of 28 points while allowing only two touchdowns, a defensive feat highlighted by a 33‑6 victory over Steubenville.
Arrington’s impact was felt on both sides of the ball; he earned first‑team All‑Ohio honors as a tackle and contributed a 61‑yard interception return for a touchdown, as well as a blocked punt that set up another score in a 21‑0 win over Canton McKinley.
College, Basketball, and Service
After his military service, Arrington enrolled at South Carolina State University, where he was named to the All‑Conference Freshman Team and quickly became a varsity standout in multiple sports.
His achievements earned him a place in the South Carolina State Hall of Fame and later led to a role as head golf coach, while his basketball prowess was recognized with an induction into the Amateur Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019.
Arrington’s life of achievement came to a close in 2021, but his legacy lives on in the halls of fame that honor his contributions to football, basketball, and the broader community.
