A standout performance
Richmond High School secured a 6‑1 victory over St. Clair in the MHSAA Division 2 district final, advancing to face Goodrich in the regional semifinal scheduled for June 3 at Yale High School.
Sophomore third baseman Jaxson Distelrath was the catalyst, finishing with two hits and six RBIs. His three‑run home run to right field in the third at‑bat and a double down the right‑field line in the second inning each helped the team build an early lead.
Coach Scott Evans praised Distelrath, saying the sophomore essentially carried the team and demonstrated the kind of clutch hitting the program has been seeking.
St. Clair coach Alex Duffiney acknowledged that Richmond’s timely hits and a series of walks by his own pitchers contributed to the loss, noting the need for tighter execution in future matchups.
The upcoming regional semifinal will pit Richmond against Goodrich at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, at Yale High School, where the team hopes to continue its postseason run.
