Richmond Spiders Gear for November Showdown at The Greenbrier Tip-Off

New transfers, historic rivalries and a return by alum David Boyden headline the upcoming basketball event

The University of Richmond’s men’s basketball team is set to open its November schedule at The Greenbrier resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, where it will meet Western Kentucky on the evening of November 20 and Liberty two days later on November 22.

Both contests are part of the River Division of the Greenbrier Tip-Off, a six‑team field that also includes George Washington, Rhode Island, UAB, Liberty and Western Kentucky, giving the Spiders an early test against a mix of regional powerhouses.

Boyden’s homecoming

Adding a personal twist, former Western Kentucky captain David Boyden, who helped the Hilltoppers capture three Sun Belt titles between 2001 and 2003, returns to the state as an assistant coach for Richmond and will be on the bench when the Spiders face his alma mater.

Richmond carries a 3‑1 edge over Liberty, highlighted by an 84‑42 victory in 2012, and the team hopes that momentum will carry into the new season as it welcomes a wave of newcomers.

The 2026‑27 roster features ten fresh faces, the most in head coach Chris Mooney’s 22‑year tenure, including sophomore center Amon Dörries, a recent All‑Patriot League selection from Bucknell, and senior guard/forward Jamie Kaiser Jr., a Butler standout who earned national rookie honors.

The incoming freshman class also brings Gatorade Kansas Player of the Year Sam Simmons Jr. and All‑Rookie Team member Aiden Argabright, promising additional depth and versatility.

Fans attending the event can purchase travel packages that bundle tickets, hotel stays and exclusive resort activities, with individual tickets slated to go on sale September 30.
