From June 11 through July 19, Hudson Yards in New York City will transform into a vibrant crossroads of sport, wine and cuisine as Rioja Wines partners with Mercado Little Spain to host an international soccer and tasting series.
The collaboration brings together the culinary vision of José Andrés and the Adrià brothers, whose Mercado Little Spain offers a lively setting inspired by Spain’s historic markets, where fans can gather to watch marquee matches while sampling curated Rioja pairings.
A Toast to Shared Culture
Guests can begin their experience at BarCelona at Txula Steak or La Barra, where expertly matched Rioja wines complement signature Spanish dishes, and later extend the tasting at a dedicated Rioja Bar that will open for sixteen match days, including every fixture involving Spain and the United States.
Rodrigo Gutierrez, North American Business Director of DOCa Rioja, emphasizes that the event is about more than competition; it is a celebration of the cultural ties that unite communities through shared flavors and football.
The limited‑time menu showcases a selection of premium Rioja labels, each paired with dishes that highlight the region’s diverse terroir, offering diners a taste of Spain’s oldest Designation of Origin, which predates many of its European counterparts.
Beyond the palate, the series aims to foster a sense of community, inviting New York’s diverse audience to experience the warmth of Spanish hospitality, the excitement of live soccer, and the richness of a wine culture that has shaped gatherings for centuries.
