The 2025‑2026 high school girls flag football season has drawn to a close, marking the end of a competitive year that culminated with the Florida High School Athletic Association’s state finals. The championship weekend showcased the growing popularity of the sport across the nation.
Makena Cook of Orange Lutheran in California earned the distinction of Player of the Year after posting an unprecedented 7,083 passing yards and 112 touchdowns. Her performance not only set statistical benchmarks but also secured her commitment to the University of Georgia’s soccer program, underscoring her versatility as a dual‑sport athlete.
Ariana Akey from Mountain Vista in Colorado was recognized as Offensive Player of the Year. Having pledged to Nebraska, she amassed 4,545 yards and 89 touchdowns, a testament to her precision and leadership on the field.
Josh Saunders of Tampa Robinson was named Coach of the Year. Under his guidance the squad captured its tenth consecutive state championship, a streak that reflects both his strategic acumen and his ability to sustain excellence over a decade.
