The scheduled showdown between the South Pointe and Ridge View football teams has been called off, leaving the rivalry’s home‑and‑home series in limbo.
Originally set for 7:30 p.m. on Friday at South Pointe High School, the game fell victim to a wave of postponements across South Carolina caused by heavy rain. The delay first pushed the contest to Thursday, then to Saturday, before a tentative date of September 18 was floated.
A Clash Postponed
South Pointe had initially proposed moving the game to Thursday, a suggestion that Ridge View accepted, but the school later asked to shift the kickoff to Saturday at 7 p.m. Ridge View declined that request, leaving the parties without a mutually agreeable window.
With no formal contract binding the two schools, neither side is entitled to compensation if the match is ultimately canceled, a reality that underscores the informal nature of many high‑school scheduling agreements.
Adding context, Ridge View enters the season ranked No. 7 in Class 5A according to the South Carolina Prep Football Media Preseason Poll, while South Pointe tops Class 4A and enters as the defending champions. Their upcoming opponents include Dutch Fork, the Class 5A champions, in the Bojangles’ Kickoff Classic on August 28.
South Pointe’s next fixture will see them host Nation Ford, a game that will now carry extra significance as the team looks to fill the void left by the canceled rivalry.
