An 11-Inning Thriller at Segra Park
The Charleston RiverDogs and Columbia Fireflies met on August 29 at Segra Park for a marathon game that stretched to eleven innings, ending with a 6-5 victory for the Fireflies.
Cooper Flemming sparked the offense with a two-run triple down the right-field line in the fifth, giving Charleston a 2-0 lead.
JD Gonzalez added to the advantage in the seventh when a wild pitch allowed him to cross the plate, extending the RiverDogs’ margin to three runs.
Reliever Alex Wallace shut down the Fireflies in the bottom of the seventh and eighth, delivering two scoreless innings that kept Columbia at bay.
Columbia answered in the eighth with a three-run burst, flipping the score to 4-3 in their favor.
The RiverDogs tied the game in the ninth as Slater de Brun crossed home on a forced out, knotting the contest at 4-4.
In the 11th inning, Grady Emerson’s RBI infield single scored Jack Lines, putting Charleston back on top 5-4.
But the Fireflies had the final say; Camden Johnson delivered a two-run single that loaded the bases and sealed a 6-5 win.
The series will conclude on Sunday with a 5:05 p.m. first pitch, and coverage will begin at 4:50 p.m. on the RiverDogs Broadcast Network.
