The Roadrunner Little League Junior All-Stars from Albuquerque, New Mexico, have clinched the Southwest Regional championship, a victory that guarantees them a place in the Junior Baseball League World Series scheduled for August 9‑16 in Taylor, Michigan.
Coached by Joe Rogillio, Adam Beggs and Jeff Barker, the squad posted a 10‑2 triumph over Rosenberg, Texas, to seal the regional crown. Their success was underpinned by standout performances from several youngsters, including shortstop Tyriano Cordova, who went 3‑for‑4 with an RBI and two runs, and second baseman Jake Stevens, who contributed two hits and a pair of runs.
International Competition Awaits
Catcher Jeff Barker Jr. added a 1‑for‑2 effort that included two walks, two runs scored and an RBI, while centerfielder Christopher Cybulski went 2‑for‑2, drawing two walks and driving in two runs. The team’s offensive firepower was evident throughout the tournament, with Cordova batting .778 and Barker hitting .600 while drawing six walks in three games.
After defeating West Texas (El Paso) 6‑5 on Friday and Seguin 12‑1 on Saturday, the All-Stars now prepare to face teams from Chinese Taipei, Australia, Canada, Italy, Aruba and Mexico in Michigan. Their upcoming matches will see the United States represented by a group of players who have already demonstrated poise under pressure.
