Triton College announced this week that Rob Holloway will take the helm of its men's basketball program, naming the former player and longtime assistant as the new head coach. The decision marks a strategic move to preserve the program's storied legacy while injecting fresh leadership into a team that has consistently competed at a high level.
A Full‑Circle Moment
Holloway’s return to Triton feels like a homecoming. He suited up for the Trojans during the 2001‑02 season before embarking on a coaching career that would take him across the Midwest and beyond. Now, after stints at several NCAA programs, he is back where his basketball journey began, ready to guide the next generation of Trojans.
Athletic Director A.J. Blahut praised Holloway's character, work ethic, and commitment to the game, stating that his deep understanding of the program's culture makes him the ideal candidate to continue the tradition of excellence established by previous coaches.
A Coaching Journey
Holloway launched his coaching career in 2010 at Kennedy‑King College in Chicago, where he led the program to 48 victories and produced six All‑Region performers. His success there paved the way for roles at the University of Missouri–St. Louis, Eastern Illinois University, Valparaiso University, and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, each of which benefited from his strategic acumen and player development skills.
A 2003 graduate of Triton College, Holloway later earned a bachelor's degree in finance from Eastern Illinois University in 2005. His academic background complements his on‑court expertise, providing a balanced perspective that he brings to every practice and game.
Building on a Tradition of Excellence
Holloway described his return as a "full‑circle" moment, emphasizing his desire to continue the program's winning ways. He plans to leverage his extensive network, including connections at Kennedy‑King College and his former collegiate mentors, to recruit talent and implement strategies that keep Triton competitive in the region.
The athletic department is confident that Holloway's blend of playing experience, coaching history, and educational foundation will sustain the program's momentum. As he steps into the head coach role, the Trojans look forward to another era of sustained success under his guidance.
