Robert Cottrell, a sophomore at Alvernia University, balances a rigorous business management curriculum with a standout season for the Golden Wolves. His recent selection to the Academic All-MAC team underscores the rare combination of athletic performance and academic dedication that the conference seeks to honor.
The Middle Atlantic Conference announced the Academic All-MAC honors on Monday, recognizing ten men's basketball student-athletes across the league. Cottrell joins an elite group of peers who have excelled both in competition and scholarship, illustrating the conference's commitment to holistic development.
During the 2025-2026 campaign, Cottrell appeared in 19 games, logging 739 minutes while scoring 356 points. His average of 17 points per game placed him seventh in the Commonwealth, and his 96 successful free throws ranked sixth conference-wide. He also shot 40.5 percent from three-point range, the fifth-best mark in the state, and contributed 35 steals, positioning him among the top ten in that category.
Beyond the statistics, teammates and coaches have highlighted Cottrell's work ethic and leadership. His ability to manage a full academic load while shouldering significant minutes on the court reflects a disciplined approach that bodes well for future seasons.
