A New Era for Chicago Fire
Chicago Fire announced on Tuesday that Robert Lewandowski has signed a contract that runs through 2028, securing the Polish striker as a Designated Player and occupying an international roster spot.
The 34‑year‑old forward arrives after a distinguished spell in Europe that included four seasons at Barcelona, where he netted 120 goals, and a successful stint with Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, bringing his career total to 567 goals across all competitions.
Lewandowski’s arrival was welcomed by head coach Gregg Berhalter, who said the club is “excited to have a champion of his calibre” and believes the signing aligns with the team’s ambition to contend for trophies in the Eastern Conference.
Currently third in the Eastern Conference with 26 points, Chicago Fire hope the addition of the Polish captain will sharpen their attack and push them toward the playoffs.
International Legacy
Beyond club success, Lewandowski has captained Poland to 167 appearances and 89 goals, a testament to his consistency on the world stage.
His leadership will be invaluable for a young Fire squad eager to translate individual brilliance into collective triumph.
Ownership’s Vision
Owner Joe Mansueto expressed confidence that the Polish star will elevate the club’s competitiveness, noting that the organization is committed to investing in talent that can deliver silverware to Chicago’s passionate fan base.
