Rocco Haeufgloeckner, a senior mechanical engineering major at Temple University, has been crowned the American Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Scholar‑Athlete of the Year, a distinction that underscores his dual mastery on the field and in the classroom.
Historic Recognition
During the previous season he appeared in 15 matches, starting 12 of them, and logged the full 90 minutes in three games, including a standout performance at Monmouth where he recorded a season‑high three shots.
His academic record is equally impressive; he maintained a 3.90 GPA, graduated summa cum laude, and was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma as a sophomore, reflecting a commitment that extends beyond athletics.
Haeufgloeckner’s research on an autonomous drone detection system earned him the Livingstone Undergraduate Research Award in 2024 and the Dr. Dennis Lebofsky Award in 2023, and he presented the findings at Temple’s Undergraduate Research Symposium.
The honor also marks a historic milestone, as he becomes the first Temple men’s soccer player since Vaughn Spurrier in 2013‑14 to receive the conference’s scholar‑athlete recognition.
