The 18th annual Rock Chalk Roundball Classic, a charity basketball game that supports pediatric cancer patients, is set to take place in early June after being shifted from its usual slot due to the FIFA World Cup.
A Milestone Game for a Worthy Cause
Organizer Brian Hanni expressed confidence that this year's event will earn an 'A' grade, citing the growing involvement of Kansas University basketball alumni and the expansion of the benevolence fund that distributes cash prizes to children battling cancer.
The game will showcase former Jayhawks from the 2008 and 2022 national championship teams, including Devonte Graham, Mario Chalmers, Sherron Collins, Sasha Kaun, Russell Robinson, Brandon Rush, Ochai Agbaji, Christian Braun, Mitch Lightfoot, Jalen Wilson and head coach Bill Self, who will all lend their talents to the cause.
Ten children will each receive a $5,000 check from the benevolence fund, a boost made possible by anonymous donors from KU, and the Yvonne Adams Legacy Fund, created in memory of KJ Adams' mother, will also support two primary beneficiaries and a runner‑up this year.
In partnership with Capitol Federal, the event will introduce a 'money ball' that rewards extra points for three‑point shots, adding an extra layer of excitement for fans and players alike.
Tickets are available at 23rd Street Brewery in Lawrence and at Johnny's Tavern locations in Olathe, Prairie Village, Topeka, and Wichita, making it easy for the community to attend and support the cause.
Beyond the basketball action, the evening celebrates the Jayhawk spirit and the power of collective generosity, reinforcing how sports can drive meaningful change for families affected by pediatric cancer.
