Mustangs March to State Tournament
The Rock Creek Mustangs have cemented their place in Kansas high school baseball history, securing their fourth consecutive berth in the state tournament after a dominant sweep of their home regional. The team finished the regular season with a 23‑4 record, a milestone that underscores both consistency and growth.
Wyatt Wells was the centerpiece of the regional finale, delivering a one‑hit complete game that featured nine strikeouts and no walks. At the plate he added two hits, helping the Mustangs edge past El Dorado 2‑0 and preserve a flawless shutout.
Luke Lee earned the win on the mound, tossing three innings of two‑run ball with three strikeouts, while reliever Brock Lubbers followed with 2 ⅔ innings of scoreless baseball and six more strikeouts. Offensively, Jaxon Pendell sparked the lineup with a 2‑for‑5 effort that included a double and two RBI, and Jesse Lies contributed two hits.
Blade Grieshaber and Jordy Scott also chipped in with multi‑hit performances, each driving in runs that stretched the lead. The collective effort produced a 12‑3 victory over Louisburg in the regional final, sealing the state berth and extending the team’s unbeaten streak in postseason play.
The Mustangs will open the state tournament on Monday, with quarterfinal sites scheduled across Emporia, Salina and Overland Park. Should the University of Kansas baseball program receive an NCAA regional hosting bid, the 4A‑1A state tournaments could shift to Tointon Family Stadium in Manhattan, adding another layer of excitement to the upcoming schedule.
