Rockbridge County High School announced on July 17, 2026, that its longtime head baseball coach, Travis Roadcap, had passed away. The news was shared with students, families, and staff, prompting an outpouring of grief across the campus.
Beyond his role on the diamond, Roadcap was a respected educator who taught a variety of subjects and served as a mentor to countless students. Colleagues described him as a leader whose influence reached far beyond baseball, shaping lives through patience, encouragement, and genuine care.

School officials conveyed their deepest condolences to Roadcap’s family, the baseball program, and the broader community. In response to the loss, counselors will be available at the school on Monday for any students or staff seeking support as they process the tragedy.
To honor the coach’s memory, a candlelight vigil will be held at the RCHS baseball field on Saturday, July 18, at 6 p.m. The ceremony will provide a space for teammates, friends, and supporters to gather, share stories, and celebrate the legacy of a man who devoted his life to teaching and mentorship.
