A Historic Venue Gets a Modern Spotlight
The restored Beyer Peaches Stadium in Rockford, Illinois, recently welcomed U.S. Representative Darin LaHood, who inspected the venue’s upgraded facilities and praised its potential to draw visitors and investment to the region.
Built on the legacy of the Rockford Peaches, a team that captured national attention in the All‑American Girls Professional Baseball League from 1943 to 1954, the stadium has been revitalized to meet contemporary standards while preserving its historic charm.
From July 22 to 26, 2026, the ballpark will host the group stage of the Women’s Baseball World Cup, featuring teams from around the globe competing for advancement in a tournament that celebrates the growth of women’s baseball worldwide.
Two years later, the same site will stage the championship finals of the competition, with the decisive games scheduled between July 19 and 25, 2027, offering Rockford a chance to showcase its hospitality and infrastructure to an international audience.
LaHood emphasized that the events are more than a sporting showcase; he believes they will generate measurable economic benefits, from hotel occupancy and restaurant traffic to increased tourism revenue for the city and surrounding area.
Local officials and community leaders echoed the sentiment, noting that the influx of athletes, coaches, and fans could create temporary jobs and stimulate small‑business growth, reinforcing the stadium’s role as a catalyst for regional development.
Looking Ahead
As preparations continue, the stadium’s management is working closely with event organizers to ensure seamless operations, from ticketing and security to fan experiences that highlight the historic significance of the venue. The upcoming tournaments are expected to cement Rockford’s reputation as a key destination for women’s sports.
