Brechler Award Recipients Celebrate Academic Excellence
The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference announced the 2025‑26 Brechler Award winners on July 2, honoring teams that have achieved the highest academic GPAs across the conference’s sport offerings.
Western Colorado’s women’s swimming and diving team captured the honor with a collective GPA of 3.822, while the men’s basketball program posted a 3.712 average, earning its fourth Brechler Award.
A Legacy of Academic Distinction
The Brechler Award was first presented in the 2012‑13 academic year and is named for Paul W. Brechler, a former RMAC commissioner, and his wife Wanda, the inaugural inductees into the conference’s Hall of Fame.
Both programs have a storied history with the award — the swimming and diving team now boasts six Brechler Awards, and the basketball team has added four — highlighting a sustained focus on scholar‑athlete success.
Conference officials emphasized that each institution’s compliance administrator submits the team GPA, ensuring a transparent and standardized evaluation process across the league’s 13 members.
Beyond the trophies, the Brechler Award underscores the RMAC’s commitment to fostering environments where student‑athletes can excel academically and competitively, a principle that resonates throughout the conference’s community.
