An 18‑year‑old woman from Rome, Georgia, was taken into custody this week after police say she assaulted the father of her child with a baseball bat, striking both him and his young son and smashing the windshield of his vehicle.
A pattern of aggression emerges
Investigators say this is not the first time Wynter Esreal Vega Melendez has been accused of violence against the same victim. Just months earlier, she allegedly bit the man on the forearm during a domestic dispute, a prior encounter that has now been linked to the current assault.
According to the Rome Police Department, the recent attack unfolded during a heated argument when Melendez seized a bat from the home and swung it at the 22‑year‑old father, hitting his left forearm and the child’s head. The blow caused visible injuries and, in a separate act of destruction, she smashed the victim’s windshield, inflicting more than $500 in damage.
Charges and potential penalties
Prosecutors have filed two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of battery and a second‑degree count of criminal damage to property, citing the severity of the injuries and the property loss.
