Rowan County’s American Legion baseball team posted a 12‑2 victory over Stanly County on Wednesday, ending the contest early when a two‑run single by Brody Pope in the fifth inning triggered the 10‑run mercy rule. The win marks the squad’s fifth straight triumph and underscores its ability to score in every inning.
The locals built a lead early and never looked back, capitalizing on a flurry of hits and aggressive base running. Rowan’s offense was relentless, adding runs in each frame and forcing the game to conclude before the scheduled nine innings could be completed.
Key Contributions from the Lineup
Brody Pope’s two‑run single not only ended the game but also highlighted his clutch hitting, while Carter Durant’s timely single tied the game earlier. Kendal Sifford’s two‑run double later put Rowan ahead to stay. The team collected nine hits, with Pope and Cameron Williamson each finishing with two.
Williamson, along with Cole Blevins and Brant Graham, doubled for Rowan, while Blevins scored three runs and Williamson added two. Durant also knocked in two runs, contributing to the offensive onslaught.
