The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) has revealed its 2026 Team Academic Excellence Award recipients, naming 197 Division III programs that met the association’s rigorous academic standards.
Among those honorees is Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, whose baseball squad earned a place on the distinguished list after a standout season that combined athletic success with classroom excellence.
RPI’s team boasted impressive scholarship metrics, with 17 of the 34 Engineers posting a cumulative GPA above 3.5 and two athletes achieving a perfect 4.0.
In addition to academic accolades, the Engineers captured the Liberty League East Division regular‑season championship, securing the title for the second time in three years.
The award, which recognizes teams coached by ABCA members that recorded a collective GPA exceeding 3.0 for the 2016‑17 academic year, highlighted a season in which more than 500 collegiate programs were celebrated.
A Legacy of Recognition
The ABCA’s tradition of honoring both coaching brilliance and student‑athlete achievement dates back decades, underpinning a suite of programs that include the historic ABCA/Rawlings All‑America Teams, the ABCA/Rawlings All‑Region Awards, and the annual Coaches of the Year distinctions.
Beyond the Team Academic Excellence Award, the association also administers the ABCA Hall of Fame, the Ethics in Coaching Award, and a variety of regional and national recognitions that underscore the organization’s comprehensive approach to the sport.
