Rui Hachimura, a former NBA player who spent several seasons in the United States, has announced his intention to conclude his professional basketball journey with the Toyama Grouses, the newly established flagship team of Japan’s B.League Premier.
Returning to roots
He is currently gearing up for his first preseason appearance with the Los Angeles Clippers after signing a two‑year contract, a move that reflects his desire to compete at the highest level and to carve out a starting role within the club’s rotation.
The prospect of reuniting with his longtime teammate and hometown peer Yudai Baba adds an extra layer of intrigue, as the two could once again share the court in Toyama and potentially strengthen the Grouses’ lineup.
Beyond the court, Hachimura recently organized a basketball clinic for roughly 200 children in Toyama Prefecture, an initiative aimed at nurturing young talent and inspiring the next generation of Japanese players.
He has spoken openly about wanting to perform at his current competitive level when he eventually dons the Grouses jersey, underscoring his commitment to finish his career on a high note while giving back to the community that shaped him.
